Women of Steel

India has come a long way. By the late 2030s, India is projected to have the third largest economy in the world. India’s women, in turn, gained greatly from this national boom. In its urban areas, women employment has recently grown at over ten times the rate of men.

In politics, the ranks of women legislators are growing, however slowly. In business, too, women like Naina Lal Kidwai, CEO of the European bank HSBC India, and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairman and managing director of the biggest biopharmaceutical firm in India, Biocon Ltd. (and said to be the nation’s richest woman) are busting all stereotypes about women and finance. In the arts, filmmaker Mira Nair has crashed through the barriers of both Bollywood and Hollywood doing much to bridge worldwide cultural gaps. Quietly Indian women’s international impact widens day-by-day into all fields.

Working Indian woman are exploiting opportunities in the “sunrise sectors” like aviation, media, hospitality, banking, retail and IT and a recent global survey by Accenture reveals that women professionals feel better equipped than their male counterpart in a variety of skills.

As REBI’s organized property shop concept pioneers its ways through India’s residential real estate industry, women are joining our journey. It makes sense really! I discussed why with Manjusri Suuraj, our Area Manager of Karnataka, and she explains it like this. “Women are natural communicators and can relate to our clients sales concerns. We understand the decisions that go into home buying and can create a trustworthy bond. My team actively recruits women for every role from Franchisee to Transaction Agents and Marketers.”

In the US, where women account 71% of full-time real estate sales agents and most are converts from other careers including homemaking, they are confident about their future in the real estate transaction business. At REBI, we’re confident that the women joining our team will thrive.
